Name: Tohru Honda
Age: 16
Appearance (Describe them!):
Tohru Honda is a near average 16 year old girl, in appearance. She is of average height, being slightly taller than her friend Hana-chan and slightly shorter than her other friend, Uo-Chan. Like all of the other kids in her school, she participates in the physical education classes, keeping her skinny and fit.
Tohru's hair is straight and sleek. Many times, the brunette prefers to wear blue ribbons in her hair. These ribbons match her brilliant, blue eyes, which reflect her sparkling personality. Tohru can usually be seen with a grin on her face, marking the obvious fact that she is a happy (or optimistic person). The clothing she chooses to wear is usually bright in color--colors that bring out the best in people. It seems her favorite color is blue, and usually she can be seen in her school uniform.
Background (Just to make sure you understand the character. ):
After the death of her mother, Tohru Honda decided to live in a tent in the countryside (her father had died several years before). She was supposed to be living with her grandfather, but when he decided to renovate his house, she told him she would find shelter with a friend until the renovations were complete. However, Tohru's two best friends already had family problems at home, and she didn't feel like intruding and making things worse for them. So to get out of everyone's way and to make everyone happy, she decided to live in a tent until the renovations were done.
Tohru didn't see anything wrong with living there, and she was still as optimistic as ever about it. Little did she know that she had set the tent up on someone's property. While out exploring her new home, Tohru wanders upon the home of Shigure and Yuki Sohma, which entirely startles her. Yuki is called "Prince Yuki" at her school and was dubbed the local heartthrob, so the situation is more than embarrassing.
Not wanting to intrude on Yuki or Shigure's land, Tohru is considering leaving, when she is offered a place at the Sohma household. At first, it is hard for her to say yes, because she feels she might be a hindrance to the family. However, it seems the situation is out of her hands as she is pretty much forced to stay there, as the Sohmas don't agree with her living in a tent. In return for their hospitality, Tohru decides to take up a job as their housekeeper, working only for her room and board, and not for pay.
Eventually, Tohru comes to learn the Sohma family secret by mistake, but it is one she plans to guard with her life. From this point on, she lives with the Sohmas and forms different relationships with each member of the family, as well as changing the outlook of life for the Sohmas, and the way things used to be for the cursed family.
Zodiac Animal: n/a
Personality:
Tohru's outlook on life itself can only be considered optimistic. She is a hard worker who balances a job and her schoolwork, while also taking care of Shigure's house later on. She's afraid to ask for more than she needs and is extremely humble. Mainly, Tohru has myriad admirable qualities. She is generous and sympathetic, even for Kyo, who tends to yell at her. Her friendliness earns her a place in the hearts of everyone she meets, maing her more than just an agreeable person.
She is also very calm and caring, and the Sohmas know they can trust her with their secret, as she was brought up to respect the wishes of others. In fact, in most cases, her needs come after those of anyone around her. She would rather be helping another person out than taking care of herself. Tohru was one of the first people to tone down the fights between Kyo and Yuki.
Despite the way she presents herself, Tohru is actually quite bright. She is a very deep thinker and has more understanding for people than might be expected. This part of her personality, however, is contrasted with her knack for being clumsy. Somehow, she finds a way to trip over or walk into anything and everything. This quality might come off as a little cute, but for Tohru, it can be painful.
Mainly, Tohru is a young girl with a need to help others and share her optimism. Her goal in life is to fulfill all her mother's dreams, and already she has begun to succeed.
RP Sample (MORE THAN THREE SENTENCES!!!):
Tohru stared at the photograph in her hand. It was more than just a photo. It was her mother. That is, all that was left of her mother. It meant more to her now than any of her other possessions, maybe because she could still sense her mother's lively spirit in that single photograph.
She missed her mother very much. Tohru had been taught by her mother to live life to the fullest and treat everyone as she would want to be treated. However, she had never expected to be left on her own, so soon in life. All she knew now was that it was her duty to carry out her mother's wishes. She would do her best in school, just as she had promised her mother while she was alive.
"Don't worry, mom. You've taught me so much about how to live a good life." Tohru smiled reassuringly at her mother's photo, as though she could hear her. "I promise I'll follow everything you've told me. I won't fail you. And you won't have to worry about whether I'm doing well on my own. I can manage! I've already found a place to stay, see?"
Truth be told, Tohru's new "home" was a simple tent in the middle of the countryside. It meant a long walk to school, but it at least kept people from questioning her about her new lifestyle--and why she chose to live in a tent, rather than with friends. She had her very own, unselfish reasons.
With one more smile, Tohru set the picture down and headed out of her tent. Another day of school was about to begin. "Have a good day, mom! I'll see you soon, and I promise to bring home an A on my next test!" Grinning, she set off, not realizing that at this very moment, her life was about to take a very different turn.
