Momiji woke up on the ground, cold, disoriented.
He blinked a few times and felt his cheeks. Tears stained his cheeks, the salt cracking and drying on his skin.
Rubbing his dry eyes, he sat up slowly, unsure of where he was or how he had gotten there.
He then realized how cold he was. Momiji suddenly realized that he was naked. His clothes were scattered around him and he pulled them on in the dark. He instantly knew that he must've transformed from weakness. But what had caused him to be so weak?
Slowly, Momiji felt his way around, and hit something plastic-the bottom of a slide. His knees dug into bark chips and the sound of metal chains chinking slowly together brought him to the conclusion that he was at the park. His eyes slowly adjusted to the night and he blinked, glancing at the street light on the corner of the park.
He was in the little playground on the corner three blocks away from his school. It wasn't anything big, just a play set, some swings, and a few picnic benches. Flowerbeds scattered around the parched grass and it was one of those little parks where you sometimes saw families eating lunch at, watching small children scampering around the big set.
Momiji sat on the edge of the wooden platform next to the monkey bars and the slide. He swung his legs back and forth, trying to figure out what had happened, what he had been doing, and how long he had been laying there exposed, or worse, in his rabbit form.
Suddenly, his head spun and his hand flitted to the back of his heat. A large lump was swollen in the square center of his skull and he rubbed in uncomfortably. A memory came flooding back to him as he remembered earlier that day...
He had been walking home from school. It was a crisp fall afternoon and the leaves had been falling, making red, orange, and gold patterns on the roads and sidewalk. It was pretty cold out too, and the sidewalks were a little slick. Momiji remembered skipping around the corner, just passing in front of the park when he slipped on a wet patch on the sidewalk and went tumbling backwards...
Well, he thought. That would explain the bump and the unconsciousness. But how on earth did I get to shelter underneath? Momiji wondered.
Then, he heard a noise behind him, and he clicked the light on his watch. 2:21 AM. Who would be in the bushes in a park at 2:21 AM?
A dark figure pulled itself out from in the bushes. A voice spoke softly. "Glad to see you're awake, Momiji," the familiar voice said.
